Tamaki Makaurau / Auckland is one of the most diverse cities in the world and with this comes both challenges and opportunities for local government. Auckland Council understands that giving voice to Aucklanders spanning generations, cultures and ethnicities and involving them in decision-making is vital to the success of the region at every level.  
 
Positions available:
Auckland Council is now offering a rare opportunity for passionate and motivated Aucklanders to play a key role in influencing council policies, plans and initiatives as a member of an Auckland Council Advisory Panel. We are now recruiting for the following Panels and positions:
 
•    Disability Advisory Panel - 8 member positions
•    Ethnic Peoples Advisory Panel - 8 member positions
•    Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel - 8 member positions
•    Seniors Advisory Panel - 8 member positions
•    Rainbow Communities Advisory Panel - 2 Maori member positions
 
The council is looking for panel members who have:
 
•    lived experience and sound understanding of a diverse Auckland community or communities relevant to the Advisory Panel being applied for
•    a good understanding of Te Tiriti O Waitangi / the Treaty of Waitangi
•    the ability to think strategically and critically
•    the ability to understand and interpret policy, project plans and strategy plans
•    the ability and confidence to offer high-level policy and strategic advice
•    an excellent command of written and verbal English or New Zealand sign language
•    the capacity to commit to scheduled panel meetings and workshops (weekday day and/or evenings)
•    the capacity to commit to a three year term, being April 2017 to September 2019
 
Panel members are paid meeting fees ($250 less a with-holding tax for each meeting/workshop attended) and reimbursed for travel expenses as per the Auckland Council Expenses Policy for Appointed Members.
 
Each of the above panels will meet up to 10 times per year including scheduled meetings and workshops. Each meeting is approximately 2 to 3 hours in duration and panel members are expected to spend on average 10 - 15 hours per month on panel activity.
