Kaikōkiri Ratonga Māori - Senior Māori Library Assistants

As Matariki brings into focus the past year, Auckland Libraries is starting to sow the seeds for our future. As a connection point for libraries and mātauranga Māori in our communities, our Library assistants fulfil a vital role in sharing knowledge and information with all ages, cultures and whānau.

The Opportunity 

We are excited to be seeking someone with a deep understanding of tikanga and te reo Māori and invite you to submit your application to join the Auckland Libraries whānau as a Kaikōkiri Ratonga Māori - Senior Library Assistant Māori. In this role you will be committed to increasing the use and visibility of te reo Māori and actively enhance the mana of te reo Māori through incorporating the language and pronouncing it with care.

You will be passionate about promoting and enabling interaction between community and knowledge through embracing current, new and emerging technology that supports customers and staff to successfully use information resources and devices.

As a Kaikōkiri Ratonga Māori you will have the opportunity to not only strengthen your connection with te ao Māori but also be encouraged to embody manaakitanga and leadership in the work you do and community that you serve.

Your Skills and Experience

We believe that the following skills and attributes will set you up for success:

  • Confidence speaking te reo Māori, enabling effective participation in a range of Māori settings
  • Sound knowledge of tikanga Māori in a range of settings
  • Willingness to advocate internally for the needs and expectations of Māori as customers
  • Embrace digital technology

Ideally you will hold NCEA level 3 or equivalent and are working towards a recognised library qualification or related discipline.  You also may have some face-to-face customer services experience and be flexible to travel to different libraries in a given area.  We are committed to enabling you to play a role in the growth and empowerment of the communities of Tāmaki Makaurau.  Applicants must be available to work Saturday and/or Sunday.
