Otahuhu Students Chasing Olympic Dreams

Two Otahuhu College students,Lucy-Kellie Emery and Shaneel Lal have been awarded a Silver Award in the Biology Olympiad and are now competing to represent New Zealand in the International Biology Olympiad. For Otahuhu College to have two students achieving at this level is a testament to excellent teaching, personalised learning and high expectations.
The next step for Lucy-Kellie and Shaneel is to attend the Training & Selection Camp to be held in the next school holidays with the top 22 students from throughout New Zealand. Selection was based on scoring 45 or greater in the Selection Exam. The camp will run from Thursday April 19 until Sunday April 29 and will be held at Auckland University and The Institute of Natural Sciences, Massey University, Albany Campus with support from Otago University. During this camp they will sit a three-hour practical exam assessing the skills taught at the camp and a three-hour theory exam.
On the basis of their performance in the assessments and their personal attributes, as evidenced by their behaviour at camp, a final team of four students will be selected will be selected to represent New Zealand on a Wallacea Expedition to the Rift Valley in Africa in July.
