Location: Based at Henderson, West Auckland
Vaka Tautua is a Pacific non-government organisation providing services nationally for Pacific people who experience mental illness or disability. We are looking for a new part time Peer Support Worker to join our Mental Health Peer Support Team based in Henderson and servicing West Auckland. This position will work with our mental health service users to provide support services which promote their personal independence and recovery.
Our services follow the Popao model and are aimed at strengthening independent living through promoting self-improvement, self-help, destigmitisation, social networking and navigation. The Peer Support Worker provides coordination between the service user, their family, clinical teams, and the community by delivering a flexible support service which meets the changing needs of the consumer.
This is important and rewarding work. Your experience in working in mental health and your ability to relate to all and contribute as part of a team will be key to your success.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Professionally manage a case load of service users in a down-to-earth and non-judgemental way to ensure they grow their independence.
2. Diligently manage data files for all your consumers, keeping them up to date and accurate, and ensuring goal plans are completed.
3. Deliver services in a culturally appropriate and competent manner, ensuring the integrity of each consumer’s culture is acknowledged and respected.
Desired Attributes:
• Experience in mental health and the ability to self-manage workload to meet targets.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and preferably fluency in a Pacific language.
• A National Certificate in Mental Health and Addiction Level 4 qualification, or be studying or willing to study towards this qualification.
• Good computer skills in Outlook and Word.
• A full clean driver’s license.
